#4 – The Hype is Gone

In Episode 4 we spend a fair amount of time discussing the newly announced Battlefield Heroes and, more importantly, if a price tag of $0 and the business model of in-game ads and micro-transactions will be successful. Call of Duty 4 takes over Halo 3, of course by release time that’s reversed again.

The Game Developer’s Choice nominations are scrutinized, as is banning Counter-Strike: Source in Brazil (??). GTA IV, Stalker on Steam, TF2 Medic tweaks, and the Far Cry 2 engine round out this week’s show.

Ole, those guys really had fun ganging up on you about Heroes. Eh

Um, Poco for some reason when you had said about Wow players and that keyboard where keys change, when you had said about wow players and whatever they do there i kinda thought it was hilarious and i dont know why. I think its the fact wow is one those games only the die hards in their little world know whats going on and we dont. where anyone could have some understanding of a shooter.

But um i thought of an idea for the show i dont know if its a pain but for the sake of any newer viewers or you know me when iam not with it and confuse Imran Brett and Aaron. maybe you could have everyone introduce themselves like the BFCast. And no offence you guys around hte confusion :P I know whos who know. But there was one episode i was like…umm i forget whos who but i know this one.. i just forget.

Good idea Roth, I’ll bring it up on the next Episode!

Looking forward to the new stalker weather i get it on steam or not depends on how the pricing is as steam tends to be more expensive as far as new games go than retail.

Oh and i would never use the ea downloader thing it is or at least was fast but there policy of not allowing you to download things more than once after a certain period of time unless you pay them for insurance is disgusting

Steam is more expensive than retail? If that is true, then that’s just wrong.

  • http://fpscast.com Brett

Steam is normally the exact same price on new titles. Sometimes Steam has sales and are lower and sometimes a retail box store tries to unload copies of a game and that clearance price will beat Steam’s price. If I were Valve I would always make a Steam game 10% off the price of a boxed version. We know retail takes a bigger cut of the total price than Steam and I would only use the Steam service if I could save a buck or two each time.

Me too. Trade in the box and stuff for extra savings and convenience.

  • Imran

The only reason Steam doesn’t charge lower prices for new games is because then retailers would get seriously pissed off and withold products from their store shelves. That’s why we won’t get to have the “savings passed to us” until the future.

    Ah, pissy retailers, gotcha.
